I am in love with the simplicity and versatility of this super easy beanie. Great for beginners and more experienced crocheters, this beanie is a great fit for everyone! Easily sized to fit anyone big or small!
It’s made by working in half-double crochets to create the brim, slip stitching the ends together and then forming the body of the hat
The Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend Yarn (get it here) that I used to make this green hat is one of my FAVORITES it’s a weight 3 yarn but I find that I can still easily substitute it for worsted weight just fine, it really is my go-to yarn for making anything soft and wearable
•5 mm crochet hook
•Any worsted weight yarn, I used lionbrand comfy cotton blend, and Caron simply soft, but any worsted weight will work!
Stitches used and abbreviations
Sc- single crochet
Hdc- half double crochet
Dc- double crochet
Blo- back loop only
Slst- slip stitch
Lets get started!
Row 1: Ch 12 hdc in second ch from hook and every ch across, ch 1
Row 2: hdc in blo of each stitch, hdc in both loops of last stitch, ch 1
Repeat row 2 until you have 60 rows for an average adult, or it is long enough to wrap around the head of whoever is wearing it.
Fold in half and loosely slip stitch the ends together going through both loops of each hdc and the starting chain
Base of the Hat
Make sure you’ve turned your work so that the protruding part of the seam is on the inside of your hat, facing away from you.
Round 1: ch 1, sc up the side of your previous work around the brim of the hat,
Two sc in each dip, one sc in each ridge.
See photo for stitch placement
You should end up with 90 total sc for an average adult hat, but it’s not a big deal if you’re 1-2 stitches off.
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as first dc) dc in blo of each sc around, slst into top of first dc, ch 1
Round 3: sc in blo of each dc, slst into the first sc.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 10 times, with 20 rows total.
Tie off and cut your yarn leaving about 10” of a tail.
Weave in and out through both loops of every 3rd stitch, and then pull tight, tie off, weave in your ends and congratulations! You have a hat!
